Move, Copy, or Delete Files from Outside Media Center

If you delete, rename or move media files outside of Media Center and the files have previously been imported, the files will become disconnected and Media Center will not be able to locate them.

If this happens you can either

Permanently remove the disconnected files from the library (your database).

Permanently remove the disconnected files from the library, then re-import them.

Reconnect the files with the library.

Permanently remove the disconnected files from the library

You will lose all database information not contained within the files themselves, including all Playlist associations.

Go to File | Library | Update Library, and check the following:

1.

Clean cover art directory

2.

Remove files which do not exist

3.

Do not update database fields.

Permanently remove the disconnected files from the library, then re-import them

Same as above. When you are done, re-import the files.

Reconnect the files with the library

You must change the path of the file in the Library to match the new path of the file on your drive. To do this, you will find and replace the old path with the new one.

1.

Select the affected files

2.

Right-click and select Library Tools | Find and Replace.

3.

In “Find What”, type in all of the path information that is to be replaced (e.g., c:\music\)”

4.

In “Replace”, type in the new path information (e.g., m:\my music\)

5.

In the box on the left, select Filename, then press OK.
